New Training – Safe Responses to Behaviours of Concern

MySkill is excited to introduce Safe Responses to Behaviours of Concern, our new de-escalation and dis-engagement training.

Developed with the national provider of behaviour support, Explore Hāpainga Ora, the training is unique as it is:

  • developed specifically for Aotearoa New Zealand
  • aligns with Positive Behaviour Support
  • focuses on de-escalation to prevent escalation

Who is the training for?

This training is suitable for any staff or whānau who support individuals whose behaviour may pose a risk, impact on quality of life or limit participation in the community.

The training teaches disengagements, sometimes referred to as breakaways, though it does not teach the use of physical holds.

eLearning modules and a face-to-face workshop

The training programme has seven eLearning modules, each taking approximately 20 minutes to complete. These modules focus on de-escalation techniques and can serve as a stand-alone positive behaviour support eLearning.

Learners can then attend a 4-hour interactive face-to-face workshop that reinforces the online content, then focuses on learning and practicing physical disengagement techniques.

Facilitation options

MySkill can facilitate the workshops, or there is a train the trainer option for larger employers.
