Upskill your staff for free this World Health Day

To celebrate World Health Day 2021, industry training leader MySkill invites all health sector employers to sign their teams up for FREE online training.

Today is World Health Day, led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and recognised globally every 7 April since 1950.

This year’s theme is “building a fairer, healthier world for everyone”. To create a healthier world for all, we must support our valued health workers who, in turn, support others to be the best they can be. By upskilling our health workers, we ensure that they are able to provide quality care to the people they support.

To celebrate World Health Day this year, and acknowledge the huge effort by our sector over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, MySkill invites all health sector employers to sign their staff up for the “Person-centred approach” online training course, free of charge.*

The “Person-centred approach” course is designed to build an understanding of what a person-centred approach means, and is available for online study at any time of day. Participants gain insights into the various ways that every person is unique; they will learn how to partner with the people they support, to identify and coordinate the actions and routines that will meet the client’s holistic needs.

What content is covered in this free course?

  • Understanding of person-centred, holistic care
  • Values and attitudes
  • Holistic needs
  • Active participation
  • The HDC code of rights
  • Cultural models of care including Te Whare Tapa Wha and Fono Fale
  • Benefits of a person-centred and holistic approach
  • Role of the Support Worker
  • People involved in delivering person-centred, holistic care

“MySkill is the only nationwide training provider led by, and dedicated to, the aged care, disability, and home and community health sector,” says MySkill General Manager Anita Guthrie. “As such, we are well placed to deliver consistent, high-quality training around Aotearoa that is relevant and culturally appropriate. I’d encourage all providers to sign up for the World Health Day promotion, and reach out to MySkill for any of their training needs.”

New Zealand Health Group Chief Executive Josephine Gagan adds, “MySkill is a central source of up-to-date, accessible training for workers across our community health and care sector. It serves the key strategic purpose of ensuring that our whole workforce can be adaptable and better prepared to respond in a fast-changing environment, while maintaining high-quality service delivery.”
